Our Fresh Hop Strata IPA showcases a new Pacific Northwest favored hop - Strata. There are now many shapes and forms of IPA, but they all share bright aromatic hop aroma of citrus, tropical fruit, and pine. The rage lasted through 1970’s, but lost steam in the 1980’s and became just another name for low alcohol bitters.Īs craft beer has emerged and grown, so has IPA! IPA has helped grow Craft Beer to what it is currently today. The word spread of India Pale Ale and people throughout England and the United States were clamoring for this wonderful new beer. Hodgson’s India Ale arrived in Calcutta in fine shape-clear, strong, and bitter, with a big, resinous hop aroma. The hops helped protect the beer from spoilage, as did the increased alcohol content. George Hodgson of London produced a pale ale of greater strength and bitterness than those he sold in London. Attempts to ship beer out of Britain to Calcutta failed. Hot temperatures, poor water and short supplies of basic ingredients made it impossible to brew beer. India, however, presented serious problems for brewers. I’ll be using that feedback as I make changes to my future releases.By the 1790’s the British were established in India and needed beer, which was considered a staple in every household. The hop pairing and hop combinations were gathered from a few homebrewing forums, by pouring through quite a few posts on hop pairings. All the data was gathered via a number of reputable websites. It’s really nothing more then a basic spreadsheet that does some data lookup’s via a few unique functions. Why not combine my homebrewing hobby with some basic tech, and create something that could provide some value to the homebrewing community. While I’m all about experimenting and doing what I want to do when it comes to homebrewing, there are normally some guidelines that I like to follow. And I agree with that, at least to an extent. I know, I know… There’s really no right or wrong answer on the pairing of hops, it’s all a matter of personal preference. But that’s time consuming, and you’re not always sure the advice you’re getting is sound. You can spend hours searching the forums, and wade through all the different advice that’s being offered. How do you choose the right hop combinations for the beer you are brewing? How do you know what hop pairings work well for a specific hop? There are 100’s of hop varieties to choose from, which makes it somewhat difficult to identify the appropriate hop pairing and combinations.
